Default Week 4 Power Rankings - There's A New Sheriff in Town

Week 4 Record: (6-1-0) Season Record: (20-9-2)
The Oil followed up their 6 - 1 - 1 week with a carbon copy, going 6 - 1 this week (they only played 7 games due to a reschedule) and now have an overall season record of 20 - 9 - 2. In what were their two biggest wins of the season, Edmonton beat Florida in a doubleheader, both by a 1 - 0 margin and they currently sit only two points behind Florida in the standings. Desired has his team playing at a very high level right now and I'm sure the Panthers can feel the Oil breath on the back of their necks.

Offensively, as a team, the Oilers scored 24 goals this week, which was good for first overall in the league. Edmonton was led once again by the young gun, No Regretzkys who had a smooth 16 points in 5 games, 11 of which were helpers. Similar to last week, veterans DesiredCustoms and Makakk88 weren't far behind posting 13 and 11 points respectively. Makakk also put up an off the charts face off percentage of 81.5%; he must have had his Gameshark code at 100%. DustyRytStyk and Rip Winkle had a combined 9 points to round out the scoring, yet they were both able to each add a GWG this week.

On the defensive ledger they were as solid as they come, allowing just 14 goals, good for second in the league.
XBoxJon and Jai Diggs led the charge, both in defensive rating and hits as they doled out a combined 37 hits much to the chagrin of opposing forwards. Both DrugMonkeyRX and F5 Penguin played only 3 and 2 games respectively on the blue line and did nothing flashy, but got the job done.

As mentioned in the Three Stars, Drug saved his best work for tending the pipes with 2 huge wins and LegendOfLayNher was no joke either. He put up very respectable numbers while playing the lions share of games (5) in the crease, where he posted a 2.80 GAA and .785 S% with only 1 loss. This goaltending tandem was a key piece of the success of the Oilers this week.

The Oilers were finally able to overtake the Panthers in the power rankings this week with two timely wins to end the week. Lead by an offense that scored the most goals, a defense that was solid as a unit, and goaltending that was Hasek like, Edmonton continues to play some outstanding hockey.

Key Player: Rip Winkle - Forward - 4gp | 1g | 3a | 4pts
This mysterious man continues to come up big for the Oil in the crucial moments. First off, he was a human wrecking ball with his 17 hits, which was second on the team. Secondly, in their week ending doubleheader versus Florida (both 1 - 0 wins), Rip pulled out his inner Mark Messier, assisting on the GWG in the fiirst game and netting the GWG in the second game.

Week 4 Record: (4-4-0) Season Record: (22-8-2)
Well after three straight weeks at the top, the mighty have finally fallen just a little bit, and slip down to the #2 spot this week. Florida was 4 - 4 on the week and while it's certainly not a bad record, it's not up to the standard they set for themselves. They still stand atop the overall standings with a 22 - 8 - 2 record, four points ahead of Edmonton, yet despite the slip up this week, they are still the team to beat.

The Cats weren't as dangerous offensively as they have been in previous weeks scoring 18 goals, which was good for third in the league. The offense as a whole was a bit stagnant with not one forward accumulating more than 9 points. GetLowBanks was the leading point getter but surprisingly, struggled in the face off dot. The trio of TheBossCwC, BenchBoss67, and kdfsjljklgjfg shared the scoring responsibilities behind Banks with their combined 21 points with Nico 916 Suave and Mr Mastxr chipping in 3 points each. Similar to the entire offense this week, Nico and Mastxr weren't themselves, and I would be surprised if that trend continues next week.

Defensively, Florida was as good as they come, allowing the least amount of goals against this week (11) which averages to about 1.38 goals allowed per game. Banks used a plethora of d men this week, rotating 6 different players, with KT and The Riddler3 leading in games played. Speaking of KT and The Riddler3, they have become quite the force in the defensive zone, and this week was no exception as they each posted D-Ratings ranked 1 and 2 in the league. Nico, FluKy, BleedBlueBlood, and chewbacca1964 shared the remaining duties on the back end with each playing 2 games and not one of them having a D-Rating less than 86.0. It was a total team effort from Banks' boys and their success was indicated in the goals allowed this week.

I don't know why I bother mentioning BBB each week, because nothing ever changes. He again posted another shutout this week and led all starting goaltenders in GAA (1.17) and Save % (.905). He went 3 - 3 on the week which was surprising considering his stats, yet two of those losses were by the score of 1 - 0. When BBB wasn't manning the pipes Chewbacca stepped in and was extremely solid in a backup role going 1 - 1 with a 1.50 GAA and .850 Save %.

Florida had a few hiccups this week, with 2 losses to Edmonton and one each to Toronto and surging Winnipeg. However, considering how long they have been atop both the power rankings and standings, it was bound to happen. Despite their struggles it still wasn't enough to do any major damage. I would suspect that Florida will come out with a chip on the shoulders in Week 5 and look to get back on top, so be warned.

Key Player: kdfsjljklgjfg - Forward - 2gp | 3g | 3a | 6pts
Despite only playing in 2 games this week, Letters made his presence known. He was the key piece in a 4 - 2 win versus Toronto netting a natural hat trick, scoring the GWG, and being named the First Star of the game with a 150 Rating. Without Letters' contributions against Toronto there would be another game in the loss column for Florida this week.

Week 4 Record: (3-5-0) Season Record: (7-21-4)
There was some light at the end of the tunnel for Winnipeg this week as they posted their best record in weeks, going 2 - 4 this week. Their biggest win of the week was a 3 - 1 win and all around solid defensive effort versus red hot Edmonton. They also took down the Leafs in a 5 - 4 OT thriller. muscleyarms83 made some moves last week, and his message seems to have been received well by his team. Hopefully this trend continues and Winnipeg can make some noise as we head down the final stretch of the season.

Offensively, it was definitely not easy going for the Jets. They only scored a total of 13 goals which was at the bottom of the league. The dynamic duo of Tigers651981 and Rushpac took the lead in goal scoring responsibilities each netting 6 points. However, after that there was a dip in secondary scoring with not one forward contributing more than 3 points. Surprisingly, silentmiller, RValliant, BONGKARMA, Ac09dc had a combined 7 points among them which contributed to Winnipeg's offensive struggles. Ac was downright dominant in the circle however, winning 69.7% of his draws.

Though they allowed the second most goals (22) this week, statistically speaking, the defensive core was very solid. muscleyarms83 has made the switch to full time defenseman and posted a D-Rating of 85.5 with the rest of the D rotation following suit. nosice was a rock on the blue line, boasting a D-Rating of 90.5 and ViolentMP and xDementedSpuDx added a physical presence with their combined 24 hits. Muscley seems to have found a D rotation that can be successful so it will be interesting to see how they perform next week.

Nutty Grandpa seems to have taken the starting role in Winnipeg, playing in 6 of the 8 games this week. His numbers weren't jaw dropping but considering he faced 64 shots, second most in the league, they were as good as could be expected. HABS played the two remaining games for Winnipeg going 1 - 1 with a GAA of 2.50. This goalie tandem has the ability to steal some games for Winnipeg and while we haven't seen it yet, it's very possible we see it in the future.

Winnipeg is starting to rev up the engine and it is starting to show in the results. They had some huge wins this week versus Edmonton (their only loss) and Florida while also adding another win versus Toronto. The Jets still need to add some spark to their offense and limit the shots their goalies are facing, but they are slowly starting to play some consistent hockey, as evidenced by their move to the #3 spot this week.

Key Player: Rushpac - Forward - 4gp | 4g | 2a | 6pts
Rushpac was a huge pivot this week for the Jets. In the 5 - 4 overtime win versus Toronto he had 3 points, including the GWG. He was also named the Second Star of the game with a 116 Rating. Rush is known as a grinding type player here at XBS but he sure found his scoring touch this week.

Week 4 Record: (2-4-1) Season Record: (14-14-3)
Toronto was the other team that only played 7 games this week due to a reschedule. Regardless, it was a tough go for them posting a weekly record of 2 - 4 - 1 and now an overall record 14 - 14 - 3. They still sit in third in the standings, 13 points up on Winnipeg but if they continue at this pace and the Jets turn up the heat a bit it might be an interesting race for that final playoff spot. On the flip side, Toronto only sits 11 points behind Edmonton and can certainly make a run in the upward direction.

Offense was a bright spot this week for the Leafs as they scored 21 goals which was second to only Edmonton. NIKDAGREEK23 was the head man this week with his 11 points in 5 games and 60% success rate in the face off dot. Revelations and OldTimeHockey did their part as well, each adding 9 points to the mix. The trio of Krimsonfire, caseobeerz, and Ftz chr0nic didn't put up the numbers we have become accustomed to with a combined total of 16 points, a total Krim is capable of scoring on his own. Surpisingly, they still were 2nd in the league in scoring.

Defense was the sore thumb for Toronto this week with their league high 29 goals allowed. So despite their offensive output the defense didn't provide the necessary support. FeenixRising23 was a stalwart on the back end, leading all Leaf defenseman with a D Rating of 93.0 which was also good for 5th in the league. slickeeeslick and OSB followed up with respectable numbers of their own with D Ratings of 85.5 and 89.5 but kabbott50 and canadianwhiskey were not what we have come to expect from them, struggling with their D Ratings. However, when it came to the physical aspect of the game, this unit was like the Broadstreet Bullies of old, throwing their bodies around with authority combining for a head scratching 86 hits. If Toronto can tighten things up a bit in the defensive zone while still playing with physicality they can be one scary unit.

Rookie Nstj and slickeeeslick split the duties in the pipes and while Nstj put up respectable numbers, surprisingly, slickeee had his woes this week. Nstj was able to nab a shutout and was top 5 in both GAA and Save % while going 2 - 1 - 1. When slickeee laced them up he certainly wasn't his usual self, both in his record (0 - 3) and his statistics and I certainly expect he will return in week 5 with something to prove.

Toronto had one of their worst weeks in a while and it was reflected in their step backward in the rankings. Krim did shake up the roster a bit and maybe guys are still figuring it out but if this weekly effort becomes a trend, the Leafs may be on the outside looking in come playoff time. With Winnipeg slowly starting to find their way Toronto better figure it out quickly and get back on a winning track.

Key Player: NIKDAGREEK23 - Forward - 5gp | 4g | 7a | 11pts
The Greek tried his best to get the Leafs on the winning track this week with his team leading 11 points in 5 games and domination in the face off circle. In his best game this week, a 5 - 4 loss to Edmonton, Nik tried to will his team to a victory scoring a natural hat trick while adding 4 points. Despite the loss, Nik was named the First Star of the game with a 130 Rating.
