Joe Montana '16

It won't have an NFL license and thus likely doomed to fail. However, maybe it makes EA step up their game. This is the first I've heard of it. Interested in how this turns out regardless.

I care more about actual game play than names on the back of the jerseys, so this really interests me. If the rumors are true that 2K sports and Microsoft are behind this, then I have a feeling I may be switching my football game this August.

You may be incorrect Joe because I also read, that the NFL may be licensed to it. I remember reading EA's exclusive NFL rights is for 3rd party software, if Microsoft is behind it, they own the 1st party rights already, thus the game would be an XB1 exclusive title. But we shall see....like most contracts there are loopholes if the owners (the NFL) want to use them ;)

Worst case scenario, the roster is full of retired NFL superstars, which would be awesome enough in my book. But my gut is telling me it will be NFL licensed.

If the game play is primo and the website support for leagues is there (like the 2K leagues used to be), I'm sold!

The Madden development team has become lazy with game improvements ever since they acquired that licence from the NFL with no competition. Some things have got better, but it's been minimal IMO, like almost bare minimal. Heck, their website still sucks and half of it doesn't even work..lol

Also read that a lot of info will be released at E3 in June.

Yeah, I agree with just about everything you said. I think the original deal allowed for 1st party development of a football title but I'm not sure the more recent renewal of the license continues to allow it. Like you, I don't care if we are able to name our own teams and have different logos to choose from and can choose the color scheme. It drives me crazy when guys complain about a detail on the home jersey is incorrect or the color of the shoes are wrong. Fix the gameplay then you can focus on the stupid no-gives-a-shit-about stuff afterwards.

Wow, greattttt news!!! There hasn't been a football game as good as ESPN NFL 2k5 in my opinion.

I'd definitely buy it. I even liked All-Pro Football 2k8, even though it had very minimal features, I always enjoyed their animations more. Very realistic. My friend and I put tons of hours in that game.

Honestly I think Microsoft and Sony are dumb for not taking advantage of 1st party license. Sony does it with MLB The Show and it killed anything made by 2k. I'm really surprised they haven't ventured back into sports games more since they are a yearly title and there's ton of money to be made there. Look at how much money EA makes year after year for the minimal work they do in almost all their sports games.

Any time a behemoth with a monopoly is challenged is a good time. Now EA can either step up their product, or try to squash the upstart without doing so. Hopefully it's the former.

This would be amazing but I, personally, wont be interested in it unless it has real teams/players. With that said anything to light a fire under EA's ass is fine by me. Hopefully this becomes successful.

It's weird. I used to play Madden all the time. Now I get it for free with EA Access and I still can't fire it up. Got so bored of the same problems year after year. That and the Niners used to be awful; I'm sure that was part of it. A fresh take on football may be just the ticket to get me excited about a football game again, assuming it has multiplayer. I'm losing interest in solo sports games more and more with each passing year. A focus on a BAP league with your own players would be sweet!
