I was playing some OTP games with some XBS members when my work phone started getting flooded with emails and phone calls from the emergency services/security group. Initially I understood this to have happened at one of our campus locations, instead it turned out to be a nearby neighborhood.

I ride past this location on my motorcycle when I commute to work, and the air is thick with acrid smoke this morning. The short walk from my car to the building created a noticeable asthma problem. The images on late night TV last night were devastating - the magnitude of this event and its proximity to both work and home have not really sunk in yet.

So for those of you who heard me go mute to take phone calls, this is ultimately what those calls were in reference to.

May God have mercy on the souls of the deceased, and prayers for the many critically burned folks fighting for their lives.

Goalie Grades

Is there any rhyme or reason to these grades?

Obviously the Positional score is fairly easy... I'm not sure I've ever gotten lower than an "A" on position.

What is Team play? As best I can tell, if you don't ever pass out and hold for a faceoff, they consider you a bad teammate. That's dumb.

What is the formula for getting grades on Stats? I gave up 2 goals on about 20 shots in a random game yesterday and got a B in stats. Then gave up 4 goals on just over 20 shots last night to Miller and a few other guys and got an A+. What gives?

A friend e-mailed me this game. Can be somewhat addicting. Thought we could post our high scores here.

The instructions are in another language...basically the object is to move your cursor over the numbers in order starting with 1 and going to 33. You don't have to click anything....just move your cursor over the number. The catch is the numbers are moving all over the place quickly. Only tried it once and got 47 seconds. I know I can improve upon that.

The Fears of Success

A short intro into what this is first. Sometimes I have these urges to just write, so I do. I wrote this up in about 10 minutes, it is not edited. It does have grammar errors, may not even make full sense. It is 100% my writing. Im just putting this bit of writing out here, just for fun, to see if anyone has a feel for what its trying to say and see what people think. Well... here it is!

The Fear Of Success

Often there is the thought of fear in our lives. Fear of doing tasks that will get us further ahead in life. In many cases they are simple tasks that even a child could do, but every day, that fear gets in the way. Tasks such as a phone call to a loved one, returning those old library books, to buying a house, or making business moves that will further us. Business moves which could even be as bold as quitting a job. Anything!

A little further into the fear of success. How can a person have a fear of success?! There is the obvious fear of failure, nobody wants to fail. Failure looks bad. We all know, looking bad is, well, just bad. Nobody wants to look bad. So, a fear of success you say? Success is full of good, even great, feelings. How can anyone in the right mind be afraid of it!

It can start from many places actually. As human beings, we look into the future, always thinking about tomorrow. Living in the present, but we always look onwards into the future. When we achieve our goals, all our life goals, what do we do next? We have this odd assumption that, if we make that million dollars, perfect our life, and all by 30, for example. We then may experience this feeling NOW, of, when I get there I wont have anything left to do. This is all the subconscience mind at work, and it may stop us from moving forward. The feeling of being complete and nothing to do, nothing to fix, scares us into never completing it. Have anything you haven�t completed 100%? How about homework, or things around the house? It could be because you have a feeling that you wont know what to do afterwards.

A fear of success can also stem from the fear of failure. If we are successful, we are in the spotlight. Now that the spotlight is on us, a failure may be blown out of proportion. Very similar to the fear of public speaking. What if, while in front of everyone, a mistake is made. Could you live with yourself? The answer is yes, yes you can. Where we get stopped is we feel as if its not something we can live with. They will make fun of me! They will never let me live it down, till the day I die! For reasons such as this, people all around the world would rather remain normal, over getting up there in the spotlight to make a difference. There are people out there who are capable of much much more powerful things, they know it too! The truth? The world is looking for you, calling you. Just stand up there, fall down, just to get back up again! A winner is the person who loses the most. A loser is a person who is afraid of losing, but ends up losing anyways.

Well I just found out today that come February 2011 I will be leaving for Osan Air Base, South Korea. I will be spending 1 year over there, most likely doing police patrols in the local Korean cities. Halfway through my tour there I do get to come back to the states for 30 days, so that isn't so bad. I will be way off schedule with you guys though so unfortunately no leagues for me!

Nevermind, we're pretty sure it's the servers now. It was very misleading because it kept happening after we would go up a couple goals, and after the game we were getting messages from kids saying they looped it.

Beast of a game!

Lat game of the night, playing for Holy Hand Grenades. Tattoo and I are on D, Brandaman and Cowboy are up front. About a minute and a half into the first period Tattoo charges across three time zones and absolutely demolishes a guy, earning himself his first 5-10 and a game misconduct. Fucking hilarious, during the replay you could see him leaving his feet and absolutely killing the poor bastard.

I figure we just lost our best hitter, so I decide to go on a mission to layeth the smack down. A few minutes after Tattoo gets kicked out of the game I fight a guy I drilled in front of our own net. I absolutely demolish him, and after the fight the animation shows the poor bastage skating away doubled over in pain and holding his face. When he came out of the penalty box he was wearing a chin guard/protector, the kind you see on guys who play with a broken jaw. Absolutely priceless.

From there I proceed to hit hard, and hit often. I ended up with a total of 22 hits in that game, which is a personal best for me. They didn't start calling me for penalties until the third period. I picked up a BS interference call, a well-deserved elbowing penalty, and with about 2 minutes left in regulation I picked up the obligatory 5-10-and a game misconduct for the usual offense.

While we didn't win the game, it was the most fun I've had playing in a very long time. A big thank you to my teammates for putting up with goon tactics - I'm still grinning ear to ear!

I've signed up for an informational lunch reception at work later this month, but being how I am I've also already done a bunch of research and I've come to the following conclusion: I'm officially nuts.

Not busy enough with work? Not busy enough with the missus and 3 kids? Nope - I'm going to take the GMAT and start working on earning my MBA from Wharton next year. Every fiber in my body is telling me that I won't be able to do it, that its too much time, that I wasn't a good enough student in college. But you know what? I'm not buying into that not good enough crap anymore. They are offering a program for executives through my company, my company will pay for it, and I know I have the brains to pull this off - IF I sufficiently dedicate myself to it.

So cry havoc and let loose the dogs of war, this puppy is going back to school! Time to start some light studying for the GMAT - I have to rock that thing by March 1st to get started summer 2011!

Yep, completely nuts. At least now I'll have something useful to read while serving my game suspensions in NHL11.

NHL 11 EASHL Issue

Hey Guys i've been trying to play NHL 11 EASHL with my buddies on the PS3 and the issue i'm having is in every single game i play after first period the screen just hangs like it just sits there and i can hear the music but it just like freezes on that part in every game i can never get to the 2nd period of a EASHL game i tried playing online team play regular with random people and it works fine 1v1 works fine just in EASHL it just does this i haven't tried my XBOX one yet as my xbox isn't hooked up at the moment but was wondering if anyone else here that has a ps3 and is experiencing similar issues? or if anyone has EA support contact number cause this is really frustrating me as i'm trying to play with my buddies and i can't even finish a whole game. I'm gonna try the XBOX one once i hook my box up is anyone experiencing this issue on the XBOX version as well? any help is greatly appreciated thanks.

Attribute breakdown?

I asked this somewhere else, but think it got lost.

Can someone provide the link to each attribute's description and what they do? I know we had this for NHL 10, and I am assuming someone did it for NHL 11 too. I know there were some new categories that effected things, like power effects multiple attributes (like checking and slap shot power).
